Opening Hours
9am-8pm *
* Joto Library 9am-5pm, * Miyagi Library 10am-8pm
Holidays for all libraries
(except Joto and Miyagi Libraries)

However, when the last day of a month falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, all libraries are open, and instead are closed on the previous weekday. When the last day of a month is a national holiday, all libraries except for the Joto Library are open. - New Year's holiday (December 28 through January 4)

Holidays for Joto and Miyagi Libraries
- Mondays
- Last day of each month
However, when the last day of a month falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the Joto and Miyagi Libraries are open, and instead are closed on the previous weekday. When the last day of a month falls on a Monday, the Joto and Miyagi Libraries are closed on the following Tuesday as well. - New Year's holiday (December 28 through January 4)

* Please confirm schedule with library staff. Please note: the Joto Library is closed on national holidays. However, when a national holiday falls on a Monday, the Joto library is closed on the following day as well.
Becoming a library member
- Anyone living in any of the 23 cities of Tokyo or some neighboring cities (e.g. Soka city) may become a library member *. To become a library member you will need some form of identification (e.g. alien registration card, valid driver's license, health insurance card or a utility bill that includes your full name and current address).
- Anyone studying or working in Adachi city may become a library member *. You will need proof that you attend school or work in Adachi city and some form of identification as noted in (a). After you have completed your application, a library card will be issued to you.

Borrowing library materials
When you borrow books and / or materials, you will need your library card. Your card can be used at any library in Adachi city and cannot be used by others.
Checkout limit / Checkout period
Members living, studying or working in Adachi city can borrow up to 20 books for 2 weeks, 3 CDs and 2 videos / DVDs for 1 week. Members not living in Adachi city can borrow up to 10 books for 2 weeks, 3 CDs and 2 videos / DVDs for 1 week.
Returning library materials
Materials should be returned to the counter at any library in Adachi city. When the library is closed, please drop books and magazines into the "book post" at the entrance of the library (CDs, DVDs and videos should be returned to the counter).
Searching for materials
Searches can be done with the "OPAC" (Online Public Access Catalog) computer system.
Reference materials
All libraries have encyclopedias, statistical material, government publications, etc. Please ask library staff for assistance.
Reserving library materials
If the materials you require are not available, reservations for future checkout may be made. Please fill out a reservation form. If the materials you require are not included in our collection, we will look into borrowing from libraries outside Adachi city or purchasing the same *.

Copy service
Copy service is available in compliance with copyright law for materials belonging to Adachi city libraries. We charge 10 yen per copy.
Storytelling and film programs for children
Please ask library staff for schedules and content.
Overdue materials
Members who do not return materials during the checkout period will have their borrowing privileges suspended. Returning materials on time insures better service for all members.
Lost materials
Members who lose library materials must purchase the same titles for replacement.
Foreign language section
The foreign language section in the Central Library has books written in English, Chinese, Korean, etc.
